All Code Ignite programs are made possible by the dedication of Vanderbilt student volunteers!
Who can volunteer with us?
All Vanderbilt students are welcome to volunteer with us! Prior experience with computer science is NOT necessary for volunteering with our Hour of Code or middle school programs. We recommend basic experience in computer science for our high school program volunteers.
Middle School Teaching Team: Join a team of 3-5 volunteers to help middle schoolers learn to code through animation or game design. Volunteers teach weekly one-hour sessions (plus transportation time), and must commit to the full six-week program.
High School Teaching Team: Join a team of 3-5 volunteers to help high schoolers learn the basics of software design and introduce them to career opportunities in the field of computer science. Volunteers teach weekly one-hour sessions (plus transportation time), and must commit to the full six-week program.
Drop-in Volunteer Opportunities: If you can't commit to joining a teaching team, you can still volunteer with Code Ignite! Complete the Vanderbilt Protection of Minors Module and join our AnchorLink roster to be notified about upcoming activities. Note that volunteers who join teaching teams are also eligible to participate in these opportunities! Drop-in volunteer opportunities include Hour of Code sessions, Classroom Visits, on-campus coding workshops, helping with outreach campaigns, and more. We estimate that there will be around 3-5 drop-in opportunities per semester, though we are working hard to add more to our schedule!
Code Ignite volunteers make a tangible and positive impact on the lives of Nashville youth while gaining valuable teaching experience in the field of computer science. Learn more about the benefits of volunteering with Code Ignite.
